1st and 2nd team record wins in NEPL, but 2nd XI lose out on run rate in Sunday's NEPL T20 qualifier

Saturday saw good victories for 1st and 2nd's in the NEPL, although the 3rd's lost in the West Tyne league.

 

The 1st XI won by 5 wickets against Hetton Lyons. Hetton won the toss and batted first in the game at Hetton, after a devent opening stand of 70, they then loss quick wickets as they were all out for 147 in 56 overs. Spin bowlers Max Williamson (4 for 47) and Pete Jones (3 for 16) they main wicket takers, Luke Doneathy also taking 2 for 19.

 

The Hill reply got off to a good start with James Schofield (42) and Mohsin Mukhtar (30) putting on a 73 opening stand, however that quickly became 75 for 3 and then 95 for 4, however Luke Doneathy's 31 not out and Pete Halliday's 20 not out, saw the Hill comfortably home with 5 wickets 12 overs to spare.

The 2nd XI enjoyed a 68 run home victory over Ashington. Half centuries from John Chambers (64), Will Archbold (56) and Joe Anderson (51), helping the Hill post an impressive 247 for 9 in 49 overs. Ashington were then dismissed for 179, Safiun Bhuiyan taking 3 for 42, Will Archbold 2 for 12 and Joe Kilpatrick 2 for 41, there was also wickets for Joe Fletcher, Anthony Hunter and Haydon Mustard.

The West Tyne 3rd XI suffered a 4 wicket loss at Riding Mill to Stamfordham. The Hill batted first posting 126 for 9 in their 40 overs, returning veteran and cultured left hander Nick White top scoring with 27, fellow veteran Davey Ladd (23) and Harry Reeves (21) also made useful contributions. Stamfordham knocked off the Hill total for loss of 6 wickets and 14 overs to spare. Matthew Lockey and Zain Ullah with 2 wickets each.

Sunday saw the 2nd XI host Burnopfield and Hetton Lyons in the NEPL T20 competition. The Hill had a last ball loss in the opening game against Burnopfield but then defeated Hetton Lyons by 5 wickets in their second game, however Hetton Lyons progressed overall thanks to their win against in the other game against Burnopfield and a superior run rate.

In other games the 1st XI defeated Ryton by 6 wickets on Thursday in the Tyneside Charity Bowl, and Blaydon by 76 runs on Friday in the NEPL T20 Competition, and Newcastle City by 9 runs on Monday in the Smithson County Cup.
