The 1st's poor start to the season continued with a narrow loss to Sacriston by 3 wickets. There was better news for the 2nd's who beat Sacriston in the reverse fixture, however the 3rd Xi's winning run in West Tyne league ended at Haydon Bridge. Sunday saw the NEPL 3rd XI win a low scoring game against South Shields.
The 1st's missing three top order batters, James Schofield (Euro Rugby), WIll Smith (Durham CCC training) and Phil Nicholson (5 a side injury), struggled to 168 all out in 58 overs, top scorer was Joe Anderson with a battling knock of 46. Despite two early wickets for Luke Doneathy and a late collapse, Sacriston scraped home with 3 wickets to spare, thanks to a fine 85 from youngster Sol Bell.
There was better news for 2s in the reverse fixture, we restricted Sacriston to 201 for 9, with 4 wickets each for Joe Kilpatrick and David Haxon. A fine kock of 72 from Ben Mussett, along with support from yougsters Fenwick Friskin (51*) and Zain Ahemd (45) saw us win by 7 wickets. The 2s sit proudly top of the table with 120 points from 4 matches.
The 3rd's who were weakend by late cry offs in 1s and 2s, lost to Haydon Bridge in the West Tyne League. Batting fist the Bridge scored 156 for 8 from their 40 overs, Joe Torre retuning fine figures of 4 for 19 from his 8 overs. There was even a guest appearance from old war horse Paul Askell who managed 8 overs 1 for 22. In reply the Hill collapsed to 102 all out in 26 overs, with Rashid Shad top scorer with 26.
3rd XI Scorecard v Haydon Bridge
There was better news for the 3s on Sunday in the NEPL league as we beat South Shields in a low scoring game at the Hill. Batting first we scored 128, which was largely down to a mature knock from Fenwick Friskin (honest!) of 46, with excellent support from 13 year old Haydon Mustard on debut, and Ismael Ahmed and Chris Pounder. We then skittled South Shields out for 106 with 3 wickets each for Joe Barnes and Ismael Ahmed.
