The light nights have arrived and outdoor practice gets underway tonight weather permitting. The League Season commences on April 18th with a First Team Home fixture against last seasons all conquering team Burnmoor CC. Members will be excited to learn that after some reflection and following a prolonged period of fasting I have decided to make myself available for selection to all the team captains. I have used the Company recommended by Adam Heather and Lee Crozier to order a specially made truss to facilitate my return to the crease. If anyone wishes to sponsor me at a £1 a run, please contact me as below. Proceeds to be split between the British Heart Foundation and BHCC.
Visitors to the Denton Bank cannot help to have been impressed at how impressive the ground looks. Mark Charlton has been working on the area at the foot of the Ground and is about to commence a new project to improve the front of the Pavilion. This should be complete by the first League Game.
It has been a busy time for Janice Mussett and the team and the recent functions have helped to keep the bar takings healthy. Sadly, external pressures have brought about price rises and it remains to be seen what will happen to Energy Prices following events in the Middle East. Thank you to all BHCC Members for your continued support and understanding.
In line with my New Years Resolution I will keep this brief but I do want to reflect on the recent death of Eric Nicholson a Life Member of BHCC and father of Director of Cricket Philip. Eric really loved sport – he was still playing 5-a-side in his 80`s-and had been a true supporter of Benwell Hill CC for over 40 years. He provided sage Legal Advice throughout that time and was invaluable when we became a Community Interest Company in 2016.
Like Eric, we have lost a few dedicated Hill `lappers` in recent years but thankfully our Club is in robust shape both on and off the field.
There is much to look forward to – starting on April 14th. Good luck to all!
