The Cricket Season has flown by and we find ourselves four games from the completion of the League Programme. The First Team are in with a chance of promotion in a highly competitive Division and your support would be much appreciated in their tough run in of 45 Over games.
The Second and Third teams have turned out some very young sides as the holiday season has hit availability but one of the upsides of a challenging season has been the progress made by many of our young players. This is a tribute to the dedication of our Junior Coaches led as ever by Barry Pearson. Our Junior Programme is second to none.
The Women`s team are starting to find their feet and have enjoyed some success in the games that they have played led by Mark Wright and Amy Chapman. This remains an important part of our cricket programme and reflects the aims of the Governing Body of the Sport the ECB.
`Can we recruit more senior players?` has been the rallying call for some time now – this is true of most North East Clubs as social habits change and regular weekend availability seems to become ever harder to achieve. If you can help us in this quest in any way please do so.
Off the field you may have noticed some work being done on the roof above the entrance and the office by our Sponsors NBMS. Our Club House that was built by Topsy has umpteen flat roofs and we are close to completing our goal of replacing all of them to `future proof` the Club. This has been a long and tiring road – thank you to all those who have contributed one way or another to helping with this task.
The Wakes business overseen by Janice Mussett remains robust and the long hot summer has seen the Bar do well which helps massively in a time when simply everything seems to be getting more expensive.
I must thank Pat Richards and Margaret Gradwell for their efforts in organising the recent `lads and lasses` event which was a massive success. If more people were prepared to organise just one event -however big or small – over the course of the year that would help us to keep the Club moving forward. Speaking of which there is a Charity Quiz on Tuesday September 9th starting at 7.45pm where we hope to raise some money for Cancer Research. It will be a rather informal affair with a not too taxing quiz and teams of numbers to suit. Please come along if you can.
Martin Avery informs me that the Squash Club is in good health and the Court is being well used despite the hot weather. It is great to see a number of female players playing whether it be squash or racket ball. They tell me they are really feeling the benefit of regular exercise and are an example to us all.
I will conclude there by as ever thanking all our many members, staff, sponsors and volunteers for all their effort and support. Our Club remains a great place to come to and these lovely summer nights showcase that perfectly.
One final thing we have the County Smithson Cup Final to look forward to when BHCC will play Stocksfield. The date has yet to be arranged so please keep an eye on the website.
