Chairmans News : July 2025

7 Jul 2025

The 2025 Cricket Season is racing along and we are about to enter the second half of the League Programme. It is all to play for in terms of our Senior Teams and I am sure all Members will wish the best of luck to our players – especially the First X1 who are striving to get back into the Premier Division at the first time of asking.

Our Cup performances have shown a marked improvement after a barren 2024 and hopefully we will be able to celebrate some silverware at the end of the season. Speaking of Cup Competitions both our U13 and U15 teams fell at the final hurdle in the Northumberland County Cup Competitions but both finals were excellent games and our sides did not let themselves down. They will be better cricketers for the experience.

The Club owes a huge debt to our dedicated team of volunteer coaches led as ever by Barry Pearson and the future of this aspect of the Club is bright indeed. Our Northumberland County Representatives ranging from Minor County Senior Max Williamson to Under 12 twins Emily and Oliver Smalley have all produced good performances and it was excellent to see 5 players have represented Northumberland U18`s in the last week. It would be remiss of me not to make particular mention of 16 year old Rory Mustard who has taken to First X1 cricket like a duck to water.

On and off the field the Club remains in good order but like every other sporting organisation (and indeed business) we face  the spiralling cost of simply everything. However, with some prudent financial management and the support of our marvellous membership we are well placed to weather any stormy seas ahead.

Our squash section remains buoyant and the team has been perfoming creditably in the Summer League. The heat has been on this summer but it doesn`t stop the likes of Steve`s Clarke and Bland from their regular game. No wonder they are so skinny.

Please continue to support the Club in all its endeavours – there is a Lads and Lasses do on Saturday July 26th which has been organised by the dynamic duo of Pat Richards and Margaret Gradwell. This was a great success in 2024 so tickets are likely to be at a premium.

Please do not hesitate to come forward with any positive suggestions about any aspects of the Club.  My contact details are Email: simon.lunn@live.co.uk or Mobile 07797 683827 or intercept me on one of my worried laps during games! It was a lot easier playing believe me.
