On the cricket front, Indoor Practice has been well attended and a number of volunteers have led sessions which is much appreciated not least by the Director of Cricket Kyle Coetzer who has been travelling the world in pursuit of World Cup glory with Scotland. Jacques Snyman our 2018 Overseas Professional has been enjoying a successful season in South Africa and recently recorded a double century in First Class cricket. We look forward to welcoming Jacques to the Club where he will be helping out on the Coaching front as well as playing in the North East Premier League.
Junior Cricket is also underway using Indoor Facilities up the road at St Cuthberts High School. Barry Pearson has recruited a merry band of assistants some of whom are parents and some of whom are our older Juniors. The enthusiasm I witnessed last week augurs well for the real stuff that starts on grass towards the end of April.
Socially I am ever thankful to the hard pressed Sub Committee who promote bands and other functions. A couple of significant birthday parties and engagement parties have helped to partially replenish the coffers following a difficult financial year in 2017. I am equally thankful that we have two such diligent Treasurers in Larry Dawson and Bill Smalley who go way beyond the line of duty to keep our affairs in order.
The AGM came and went in February – there were relatively few changes in Committee Personnel or in Captains and Vice Captains. I am not sure if this indicates stability but in any case I am happy that we have such a significant number of people that are prepared to give of their time to the cause of Benwell Hill.
