Cup Review - 1st XI enjoy double midweek cup success

27 May 2023

After a disappointing weekend, the First Eleven got back to winning ways with Cup success over Tynedale in the Smithson County Cup on Wednesday and Blaydon in the Tyneside Charity Bowl on Friday evening.

On Wedneday we truimphed over Tynedale by 12 runs in a tight game. Batting first we posted 129 for 6 in 20 overs, largely thanks to opener Prahalad Nadella who carried his bat with a vital 47 not out. In response Tynedale lost a couple of quick wickets, but rallied however the wickets of ex Hill man Ben Mussett and big hitting  Ollie Fletcher to Pete Jones and Warren Poxon respectively, were crucial, as Tynedale finished on 117 for 9 off their 20 overs. Dan Gardiner picked up 3 wickets, with 2 each for Kyle and Pete, 1 each for Warren and Vasi MacMillan.

On Friday we welcomed Blaydon back to the Hill, and there was a bumper crowd (boosted by the ever successful All Stars) on a beautiful evening to enjoy the proceedings, It was a low scoring affair with the Hill posting 116 for 6 off 20 overs on a tricky wicket. Opener Vasi MacMillan scored 47, with Angus Guy adding 31, some lusty late blows from William Archbold (18 off 12 balls) helped us get to a competitive score. In reply the Blaydon batters also struggled to get onto top of the bowling, and eventually limped to 84 all out, Dan Gardiner continued his good week with 5 wickets for 23 off 4.4 overs, there was also 2 wickets each for Pete Jones and Max Williamson and 1 for William.
