Double delight as 1s and 2s win their opening games of the NEPL season

It was a terrrific start to the season on Satuday as both the 1st's and 2nd's recorded convincing wins against Burnopfield (by 77 runs) and Gateshead Fell (by 6 wickets) respectively.

 

At the Hill Kyle Coetzer wasted no time in hitting the first centrury of the season, as he amassed 107 in a huge total of 288 for 3 wickets in the alloted 50 overs. James Schofield also started in excellent style with 68, as he and Kyle put on 182 for the 1st wicket. There was also runs for Rory Hanley with 40 and debutant Angus Guy with 49 not out.

 

The Burnopfield reply was looking menacing at 201 for 4 with 10 overs still remaining, however they then collapsed losing their last 6 wickets for 10 runs, as they tumbled to 211 all out. Kyle was in the wickets too taking 3 for 27, there was also wickets for Mohsin Mukhtar 3 for 48, Max Williamson 2 for 29 and Rory Hanley 1 for 12.

At the Fell the 2s also enjoyed a comfortable win, they inserted the hosts who scored 179 all out from 44.4 overs. Wickets were shared out, with debutant Thomas Hastilow taking 2 for 21, Harry Reeves 2 for 12, evergreen Joe Kilpatrick 2 for 35, Pete Jones 2 for 37 and Joe Torre 1 for 38,

 

The Hill chased down the score in only 32 overs, Haydon Mustard top scoring with 49, new captain Matty Hynd scoring 47, William Archbold (28 not out) and Joe Fletcher (23 not out) seeing us home with the minimum of fuss.
