First hat trick of 2020 as the ladies start with narrow defeat

26 Jul 2020

The ladies 2020 season got underway on Wednesday evening (22nd July) and what a start to the season for Niamh Brennan who took 4 wickets, including a hat trick against the 2019 Northumberland Women's league champions South North.

As advised in an earlier article unfortunately the ladies season for 2020 will be friendlies only, but there was no shortage of competitiveness in what turned out to be a narrow defeat.

Given the long break and only a handful of nets, it was an excellent performance from the Hill ladies who were captained for the first time by 15 year old Emily Whiting. All 3 debutants, Laura Pearson and Maisie Sinclair (who have joined from Newcastle) and Katie Chomse (who has joined from Corbridge), impressing a healthy crowd at the Bull ring.

The Hill batted first posting 80 for 2 in 18 overs, runs were well spread, with Ella Lillico and Laura Pearson retiring not out, to allow others to get a quick hit. A strong South North including Amy Campbell (famous in Hill circles for hitting Havesy for consecutive sixes a few years back), knocking off the total for 7 wickets, with the aformentioned hat trick for Niamh, and a wicket each for Maisie Sinclair, Katie Chomse and Ellie Taylor.

The next ladies game is at home to Stocksfield on Thursday 30th July, come along and support the team if you can.
