Junior Review (14-16 July): U13s in narrow loss to South North in title showdown, U15s lose to Tynedale, U11s win again

19 Jul 2019

The U13s hosted South North on Sunday 14th July, with both sides knowing the winners would secure the U13 Northumberland Junior Cricket League title. Overnight rain had put the game in jeapordy, but with so much at stake it was decided to go ahead despite a damp wicket. The toss was crucial and South North won it, inserting the Hill.

Our batting which has been magnificent all season struggled to reach the heights of previous weeks, with a combination of good bowling and fielding, and the condtions inhibting our batsmen. We struggled to 70 all out, which was largely due to an excellent 33 (retired) from skipper Haydon Mustard, Kemitha Mudalige the only other batsmen to make double figures.

However South North batsmen also struggled due to an excellent opening 8 overs from Owen Blackburn (1 for 11) and Kemitha Mudalige (2 for 8). An excellent 4 over spell from 11 year old Ibrahim Tayyab kept up the pressure (1 for 12), however an excellent knock of 32no from Angus Southern, eventually saw South North home in the 19th over.

It was a great game in difficult conditions, and it was fantastic to see such a large crowd there supporting both teams.

Under 13 scorecard v South North

On Monday 15th July the Under 15s lost heavily at Tynedale. Tynedale posting 139 for 4 in their 20 overs, our reply never got going and only Haydon Mustard with 31 got into double figures, we eventually finished on 63 for 9 in our 20 overs.
