The Hill Under 11s and 13s have so far managed to dodge the early season showers on game days (Sunday mornings) and have had a great start to the 2021 season, unfortunately however two of the first three Under 15s Monday night games have fallen to the weather.
The Under 13s have started the season unbeaten, with a 7 wicket win against Tynedale (league) and a 9 wicket win over Cramlington (cup). Aaron Armstrong has impressed with the bat in both games with 27 and 21 not out. With the ball Warren Poxon took 3 for 8 against Tynedale, and against Cramlington Ellie Fogan took 2 for 8 and Subhan Shahzad 2 for 0. The Under 11s have managed to fit in more games than training sessions so far this year. The first game was against Gateshead Fell and they will no doubt be one of the strongest teams we have to play this year. Batting first the Hill managed to score 245 with good contributions from Nicholas and Gruff. With 8 overs left to bat Gateshead Fell were already in the lead but there was a great fight back from the Hill. Sadly it wasn’t quite enough with the team going down to a 1 run loss. Freddie and Gabriel led the way with 2 wickets each and we also managed to get 2 runs outs with great fielding by Ibrahim.
Next up was a Friday night trip to Tynemouth to play in some sunshine but very cold conditions. The Hill batted first and scored 272 with Harsh and Freddie leading the way. Tynemouth had an inexperienced team and tight bowling from the Hill restricted them to 210 with Nicholas bowling 4 overs for 3 wickets and no runs.
Last weekend we travelled to Tynedale and it was great to finally play in some warmer weather. Tynedale had a strong bowling attack but all players contributed with Thomas and Gabriel top scoring in a total of 245. We even saw our first six of the season from Gabriel. The Hill then turned in their best bowling and fielding performance of the season picking up 14 wickets. Seb and Freddie both picked up three wickets each and we also got 4 runs outs with a direct from Hector being the highlight. Tynedale ended up on 161.
Special mention to Thomas, our wicket keeper, who as well as claiming a couple of run outs, has only conceded 9 byes so far (the opposition total is 27).
As mentioned the Under 15s have had their last two games v Tynedale and Tynemouth cancelled due to bad weather, the only game they have played so far was away to Bates Cottage. We restricted Bates to 55 for 6 off 20 overs (2 wickets each for Jayam Patel and Haydon Mustard). We chased down the total for loss of 1 wicket in the 10th over, Freddie McGregor scoring 22 not out and Fardin Bhuiyan 15 not out.
