The under 13 team completed their 2020 season with a fantastic victory at South North. Batting first, South North struggled to 70 for 8 after 20 overs in the face a magnificent effort in the field from the Hill. Led by opening bowlers Abu and Ibrahim, but followed up by Ben Robinson, Jayam Patel, Mayaank Reddy, Aaron Armstrong, Warren Poxon, there was no let up. South North were 39 for 7 before rallying to reach 70 for 8. The fielding was excellent, led by keeper Rory Mustard who took a great catch and involved in two run outs, there was also an excellent run out by Isaac McIntosh.
In reply, South North came back at us to leave the Hill at 17 for 3, then Freddie McGregor batted really well for 20 before he was out to a strange dismissal.
The star of the show was 11 year old Rory Mustard who scored 24 not out to win the game along with skipper Abu Siddique so the Hill won by 6 wickets with 5 overs to spare. The scorecard is available here https://benwellhill.play-cricket.com/website/results/4517815
The 13s finish with 6 wins out of 7 with lots of positives to take forward to next season.
The Under 11s who also had an impressive season, ended the season with a narrow defeat to Alnmouth and Lesbury. Batting first, in very windy conditions, Benwell Hill reached 255 for the loss of 6 wickets with Alnmouth bowling and fielding well. Top scorers were Fergus and Freddy.
The game went down to the last over with Seb and Freddy both getting 2 wickets each and a good run out. Unfortunately a couple of missed half chances were the difference and Alnmouth won by 7 runs.
The majority of the team will still be eligible for the U11 next year and despite the shorter summer season everyone has improved so it bodes well for next year.
