In the past 2 days the Under 11s, 13s and 15s all enjoyed victories over local rivals Newcastle Cricket Club.
The Under 11s came out on top in a close game at home to Newcastle. Batting first the Hill scored 267 for 5 with all pairs contributing. The team struggled in the first part of the Newcastle innings with a couple of dropped catches but in the second half there were three great catches from Gabriel Mellor, Daniel Warkman and Freddie Mexter. The pick of the bowlers was Nicholas Walder who claimed 2 for 0 from his two overs. Newcastle ended up on 261 for 7 with the Hill taking three wickets in the last three overs.
The Under 13s had a comfortable victory at Medicals, we batted first and after a tricky start against some impressive bowling, however the middle order of Rory Mustard and Abu Siddique both of whom had to retire on 30, got us to a good total of 139 for 5 of 20 overs. Newcastle finished 72 all out, with all the lads bowling well but Aaron Armstrong returned amazing figures of 4 for 0 off his 2 overs.
The Under 15s continued the good run against Newcastle on Monday evening with a 24 run victory. Full details to follow.
The only negative result came on Friday with a loss in the Quarter Final of the NEPL U15 40 over competition away at Tynemouth. Due to the bad weather, the game was reduced to 20 overs per side and after winning the toss, captain Abu Siddique decided to bowl first. Despite some early damage being done by the Tynemouth openers, we managed to restrict them to 136 from their 20 overs, Owen Blackburn the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets.
In reply, the chase got off to a shaky start after the early wicket of Fardin Bhuiyan, but an impressive innings of 12 from the young Jayam Patel (12 years old) kept us in the game but in the end it proved too much for us, finishing 80 all out and losing by 56 runs, which unfortunately knocks us out of the competition.
