There was a mixed bag of results for the juniors last week.
On Monday 24th August, the Under 15s played their final game of the season away vs Newcastle. Due to a tricky Heaton medicals pitch and some good bowling from Newcastle, we were only able to reach 91 from our 20 overs, with the runs being shared around.
However, Haydon Mustard and Owen Blackburn got us off to a fantastic start with the ball, restricting them to just 15-1 from the first 6 overs. They were then backed up by the rest of the bowlers, with Sam Rowe picking up the key wicket of the other Newcastle opening batsman. Wickets continued to fall thanks to a great team effort in the field, as Newcastle finished their 20 overs 75-9 which meant we won by 16 runs.
On Sunday 30th August, there was a double header versus Tynedale at Under 11 and 13 level.
At the Hill the Under 13s came back down to earth with a bump as they lost by 6 wickets, against a well drilled Tynedale side, who proved to be our challenging oppoents to date. Tynedale were excellent in the field, had two run outs via direct hits and caught superbly, these coupled with tight bowling meant we only posted 77 for 9 in our 20 overs, a far cry from the huge scores against Tynemouth and Ponteland. Top scoreres were Isaac McIntosh with 19, and their was a stylish 15 in the middle order from Aaron Armstrong, which gave us a low but competitive total. Tynedale chased down the score for the loss of 5 wickets, with Warren Poxon picking up 2 of them. The team finish their season this Sunday morning away to South North.
The Under 11s put in their best performance of the season in a win at Tynedale on Sunday afternoon. Tynedale batted first scoring 262 for 9, however we scored 313 for loss of only 4 wickets, with Gabriel top scoring with 19. The team finish their season this Sunday morning at home to Alnmouth.
