In light of the current environment and delay to the 2020 season, we will use the next few weeks to publish a series of Q&A's with current and ex Hill players.
This week is the turn of current Hill and Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer :
Q1. How many years have you been a member at the Hill?
A1. 2020 will be my 5th year in a row, but I also played one year previously for BHCC when I was still playing for Durham CCC.
Q2. What other clubs/teams have you played for?
A2. Durham Cricket Academy, Gateshead Fell, Blaydon, Swalwell, Middlesbrough, Market Harborough, Stoneywood/Dyce
Q3. What’s your best performance for the Hill?
A3. It’s not my highest score but I feel my best innings for the club was 134 not out vs South North back in 2016. We were in the hunt to win but ended up saving the game for a well fought draw.
Q4. Best player you have played with for the Hill?
A4. Jacques Snyman who was our overseas player in 2018 and elsewhere? I have been lucky to play alongside a number of fine players but batting with Shivnarine Chanderpaul when he was ranked number one in the world was pretty special.
Q5. Best player you have played against?
A5. Batsman – Jacques Kallis, Bowler – Rashid Khan & Mitchel Starc, WK – AB de Villiers
Q6. Most feared opponent’s when playing for the Hill or other team?
A6. Du Toit, he always scores runs against us.
Q7. Best ground’s played at?
A7. Lord & Newlands
Q8. Team you always love to beat?
A8. England & Afghanistan
Q9. If you could make one change at the Hill what would it be?
A9. Get a new 4 lane net facility.
Q10. If you could make one change to NEPL what would it be?
A10. Play all shorter format cricket in coloured clothing and mimic what the international teams play.
Q11. Advise for young cricketers?
A11. Don't be scared to try new things or to get things wrong.
