Rain frustrates 1s and 2s again, but 3s fall to narrow defeat

27 May 2019

For the second consecutive weekend rain was the winner when it came to the 1st and 2nd XI games. At least this week there was some action, which made it all the more frustrating as both teams appeared to be in strong positions as rain stopped play around the innings break.

1st XI Scorecard v Hetton Lyons

The 1st's had a strong looking Hetton Lyons team at 144 for 5 off 47 overs when the rain struck. Some tight bowling from all seven bowlers used, gave us the upper hand, Callum Harding the pick of them once again with 3 for 27 off 12 overs. Rory Hanley and Kyle Coetzer the other wicket takers. Unfortunately the rain came and didn't stop until much later in the day, by which time the game was abandoned. The Hill claimed 7 points, the visitors 6 points.

Joe Moore came back to form with a bang with a magnificent century (118no) for the 2s at Boldon (his optician's appointment with Birty cancelled as a result), in a score of 247 for 2 off only 40 overs. David Haxon contiuing his impressive recent form with 89no, Matt Hynd (5) and Joe Anderson (19) the unlucky men to miss out on the run fest. However following the captains declaration the heavens opened, and no further play was possible.

2nd XI scorecard v Boldon

The 3rd's once again got their game completed despite the inclement weather in the region. Unfortunately this week they were on the losing side, in what was a very narrow loss. Bowling first the Hill restricted Hexham Leazes to 102 all out, Joe Torre the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 18. However we fell agonisingly short by 3 runs, due to a monumental collapse from 69 for 2 to 72 for 8. Leighton Hopper top scorer with 26.

3rd XI scorecard v Hexham Leazes

Thursday night action saw the C Divsion team post a win against Morpeth, we chased down 119 in 18 overs, with all rounder (!) Peter Jones (39no) and William Archbold (26no) seeing us home, Davey Ladd opened the innings and scored 30.
