Saturday rain frustrates 1st XI at Burnopfield, 2nd XI top of the table clash cancelled, however Sunday sees another huge century for Joe Anderson

It was a frustrating Saturday for the 1st’s at Burnopfield, after sitting around for over 2 hours, the rain eventually stopped and to the credit of everyone at Burnopfield started at 2pm in a game reduced to 68 overs.

Captain Pete won the toss and inserted the home side, they posted 169 for 5 in 36 overs, Callum Harding and Kyle Coetzer claiming 2 wickets each, Max Williamson with the other. Our response was going along in great style at 79 for 0 in 16 overs, Angus Guy with 52 not out and Mohsin Mukhtar with 26 not out, when the heavens opened again, and eventually led to its abandonment. Each side claiming 7 points each.

The 2’s top of the table clash against Gateshead Fell was cancelled without a ball being bowled.

Sunday saw the West Tyne 3’s play their home fixture at Hexham Leazes. After struggling to put together 11 players (there was also a NEPL 3’s game on the same day) we ended up losing Zain Ahmad on gameday to the 1st XI for their Charity Bowl final, but it didn’t change what was a great result

Winning the toss and batting first we made 302-2 off our 40 overs with Joe Anderson adding to the 172 he made at Newton scoring 152 not out including 12 6’s and 11 4’s with John Chambers contributing with 65 not out. There were contributions from both Davey Ladd 42 and Rohaan Aatif 21.

The bowlers saw off the opposition for 120 in the 29th over with Ishmael Ahmed and Haroon Malik both taking 3 wickets each with 2 for Sam Stillwell. And one a piece for Harry Reeves and Chris Pounder

The NEPL 3’s lost a low scoring game away to Blaydon. We restricted Blaydon to 134 all out, 3 wickets for Shay Marley, and 2 each for Jayam Patel and  Abu Siddique. However despite good knocks from Freddie McGregor (23) and Ben Moody (22), we stumbled to 115 all out, to lose by 19 runs.
