It was quite fitting that the second team brought down the curtain on a fantastic season for BHCC, winning their fourth peace of silverware on Saturday by defeating Whitburn in the final of the James Bell Cup.
In front of a big crowd at Denton Bank, including a large contingent from Whitburn who had quickly worked out where the bar was to create an excellent atmosphere, the home side batted first and scored 151 for 3 in their 20 overs built around a century opening partnership between two of the five Joes in the team, Anderson and Moore. Nemo was run out for 40, Janders made 59 before Mustard and Fletcher hit useful runs in the last couple of overs.
Whitburn faced a stiff task which was made even harder when Ben Moody increased his growing reputation since he returned to the Hill by removing the first three batters. Joe Torre then finished off his excellent season by taking 4 for 13 and Whitburn finished 60 runs short.
The Hill produced an outstanding performance to finish off the season against a strong Whitburn side, congratulations to Matty Hynd, Andy Dawson and the rest of the squad on winning the NEPL Divison 2 title, the Banks Bowl, Roseworth Cup and now the James Bell.
Thanks to Barry Pearson for the review and Martin Avery for the photos.
