It was a mixed weekend for the Hill senior teams, with the 1st's recording a losing draw away to Tynedale, the 2nd's losing heavily in the reverse fixture, however there was good news for the NTCL 3rd's as they recorded an excellent narrow home win over Greenside 2nd's, largely due to an excellent all round performance from 14 year old Seb Fletcher-Woods. Read on for all the news.
NEPL Division 1 - 1st XI v Tynedale (a) - Losing Draw - Match Report by Phil Haves
Our winning run came to an end at Hexham on Saturday as we held on for a losing draw.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat on what proved to be a difficult wicket to score on. Two early wickets from Winny reduced the hosts to 11/2 before we suffered a hammer blow when Callum pulled up injured in his 5th over. Former Hill player Tom Cant and Will Marrow added 42 before Abu, who had replaced Callum, dismissed Marrow for 34. Rainford, Parker and Platts were all dismissed cheaply - which included a stunning catch by Belly at slip - as Tynedale slipped to 126/6 and hope we may bowl them out cheaply. Cant and Crichton had other ideas as they added a further 57 and after Crichton was dismissed with the total on 183 the remaining 3 wickets fell for only 17 runs as Tynedale were dismissed for 200 in the 58th over. Tom Cant was 9th man out for a very well made 89. Max and TK with 3, Winny 2, Lee and Abu with 1 each were our wicket takers.
With 53 overs to chase the 201 required for once this season we did not get off to a quick start as Rory and Belly faced some accurate bowling. Rory (19) was first to be dismissed with the score on 34 then Belly (18) and Pete (6) fell in quick succession. Adam and TK took the total to 98 when Adam was bowled for 22. Fletch joined the Pro and added 36 before being dismissed with Max following quickly afterwards. TK reached another half century but when he was caught at deep square for 50 hopes of a win receded. With Abu and Winny also going cheaply it was left to Callum and Lee to see out the last 3 overs for the draw and secure 10 points.
Lanchester at NBMS Denton Bank on Saturday is our next challenge in this extremely competitive division.

NTCL Division 5 West - 3rd XI v Greenside 2nd XI - Won by 9 runs - Captains report by Chris Pounder
Saturday saw the NTCL 3’s host Greenside 2’s in an important clash at the bottom of the table
The skipper lost the toss and was put into bat we lost our first wicket with the score on 25, Ramin Aatif bowled for 10. Harsh Patel continued his decent form with the bat for 3’s with a 34 run partnership with Gabriel Mellor falling 9 short of 50. Harsh would closely followed by Gabe (5) and Freddie (0) before the senior heads of James Walder and Dave Haxon took the score from 60/4 to 80/5, Haxon was next to go controversially given out LBW. Enter the lesser spotted Rashan Hameed at 7 who along with James Walder would ave the biggest partnership of the innings taking 3’s to 126 before James was out for 34. Runs continued with the entrance of Seb Fletcher-Woods who with Rashan would take 3’s onto 155/7 before Rashan was run out for 29. Seb would go on to make 22 before wickets fell in the last few overs leaving the hill all out for 178.
In reply the Hill had Greenside 1 down early Seb taking a catch to give Nick Walder his only wicket of the day then Seb taking the first of his 6 wickets for the day before having to come off after 5 overs. Greenside would then see a 76 run partnership between Townsend and Ward before the skipper removed Townsend caught behind for 34 followed soon after by Snowdon giving Gabe his only wicket of the game. Already with 1 wicket to his name Seb would turn the game on its head removing skipper Rowell (10) who with Ward had taken the score from 117/4 to 145/5 Neesham (1) and the most important wicket of the day Ward (71) then Buczma for 3 to leave Greenside 153/8. A brief cameo from Crozier (17) would make the final few overs a little nervy but another Seb wicket would settle the nerves. With 11 needed from the final over Seb would see out the game with a man of the match performance to help 3’s leapfrog Greenside in the league and finish the weekend outside the bottom 2.
