Weekend Review (20-21 July) : Familiar Saturday weather story and another Sunday win for 3rd's

26 Jul 2019

Once again the Saturday fixtures were impacted by wet weather. The 1st's got started but only managed 6.5 overs when the heavens opened with Eppleton 28 for 0. The 2nd's game was abandoned without a ball being bowled for the 2nd week running.

The 3rd's West Tyne game missed the heavy showers again, this week however it was to our advantage, as we recorded a resounding 8 wicket victory over Wylam. We bowled them out for 45, and knocked them off for loss of only 2 wickets. Wickets were shared around, Chris Pounder with 4 for 11, Harry Reeves 3 for 4, Haroon Malik 2 for 12 and Jeff Mason 1 for 14. Zain Ahmed's 31no ensured there was no monumental collapse this week, as we knocked the runs off in the 14th over.

The NEPL 3rd's once again got the best of the weekend weather, and took advantage with a 113 run win to extend their lead at the top of league. Batting first we amassed 233 in our 40 overs, with 16 year old Rohan Aatif scoring a career best 72, he was ably assisted by Will 'I play every game' Archbold who got 46, and Darsh Tharanga 57no. The Fell fell well (!) short in reply at 120 all out, once again wickets shared out, 16 year old spinner Matthew Lockey getting 3 for 16, Andy Jewitt 2 for 16, Joe Anderson 2 for 30, Harry Reeves and Jeff Mason with 1 wicket each.
