Weekend Roundup: End of the road for 1st's after Semi Final loss

17 Sep 2020

The 2020 season ended for the 1st team on Saturday with a disappointing defeat in the Banks Salver semi final at Chester le Street.

Both teams were missing key players, but the absence of Kyle Coetzer was a big blow for the Hill. After winning the toss and batting first, we made a bright start before losing regular wickets to end up being bowled out for 153 in the final over. Luke Doneathy top scored with 32 and Rory Hanley made 23 at the end.

In reply, the game was in the balance at 86 for 3, after wickets for Rory, Callum and Max, but the experience of skipper John Coxon and Quentin Hughes saw the home side through to a 7 wicket win with 5 overs to spare. Good luck to Chester le Street as they move on to the final against Burnmoor next Saturday.

Although it was disappointing to lose the semi final and not match the level of performances in previous games, it should not detract from what was an excellent campaign in the Banks Salver with lots of positives to take forward to next year as we hopefully will get back to a 'normal' season.
