The annual Benwell Hill Golf day took place at Ponteland Golf Club last Sunday (24 September). There was another cracking turn out with 24 Hill members, ex Hill players and guests battling it out for the trophies, the single competition for the AU March Trophy and the pairs competition (combined stableford score) for the Spring Foursomes Trophy. The competitions were played over 18 holes on a testing course in excellent condition. however the weather was less so, with a prolonged rain shower hitting the middle of the round.
The singles competition was won by Scott Williamson with a fantastic score of 44 points (comment - it was only my third decent round all year!), Barry Pearson was second on count back with 37 points, and third was Malcom Brown also with 37 points. Barry Pearson and Paul Currie (31 points) won the pairs competition with a combined score of 68 points. Nearest the Pins on the Par 3s were won by Max Williamson (2nd), Luke Doneathy (7th) and Malcolm Brown (15th), Max also won the longest drive challenge on the 18th hole.
Many thanks to all who attended and to Ponteland Golf Club for hosting us.
