The strangest cricket (half) season ever came to an end on Saturday when the 3rd team led by rookie skipper Chris Pounder beat Stamfordham by 4 wickets. I watched the game from a distance and would defy any virus to beat the Arctic conditions but the thing that struck me was how much the game was enjoyed by both teams and how competitive the cricket was. West Tyne Cricket is not to be trifled with and our promising boys have to stand up and compete which I am sure will stand them in good stead down the line.
It was disappointing that the Second Team cup final was postponed and that Presidents Day had to be cancelled but I prefer to take a positive view in that at least cricket broke out in 2020 when things could have been radically different. Other sports have been less fortunate and who knows what the future holds?
As a Club I am immensely proud of how we have collectively responded to the Covid Crisis – too many people to be counted have stood up and been counted and with a fair wind we are in a decent position to get through the winter and beyond. Please continue to find ways to make a contribution – however big or small – and if you have any new ideas please get in touch.
October 1 is the date when Social and Squash Memberships are due for renewal. Particular thanks are due to Gordon Haxon and to Martin Avery for their sterling work in leading on this. Your continued support has never been more vital and the Board and General Committee thank you for that.
The world does continue to revolve and congratulations are due to Ramsey Wilson on his impending 70th birthday. The big party has been forced onto the back burner but I am sure it will be a belter when it does take place. In the same vein Phil Haves retires from the world of work on September 30th at which point he can get on with his real life`s work at BHCC. My best wishes to both Ramsey and Phil.
A number of youthful members are heading off to various Universities – please go with our best wishes and if you do get confined to your rooms I suggest reading a book might pass the time.
Finally, please continue to comply with the guidelines associated with the use of the bar. Our professional staff have played an absolute blinder thus far and your cooperation has been fantastic. We can only hope better times are round the corner but in the meantime stay safe.
