Chairman's update - 31st August 2021

1 Sep 2021

The final straight of the 2021 Cricket Season is upon us – two Saturday League matches to go with hopefully some more success to celebrate.

My first task is to inform Members that Kyle Coetzer has agreed to remain as Director of Cricket for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. My fervent hope is that the relationship between Kyle and BHCC continues for many years beyond that. On and off the field there can be no doubt that Kyle has had a hugely positive influence on our Club over the last five years and we are fortunate that he remains committed to our cause.

On the field I am delighted to report the further success of our Under 15`s in winning the NEPL Trophy in an excellent final against Lanchester whilst the Second X1 won the Banks Bowl v Hetton Lyons yesterday in an equally close game. In fact this is the second time the Banks Bowl has been won by BHCC in 2021 which may become a quiz question in years to come.

If Carlsberg did enjoyable cricket Saturdays it would be hard to match Saturday August 28 with NEPL wins for the First and Second team against South Northumberland whilst the Thirds enjoyed an excellent WTL win v Haltwhistle. Apparently the cheers when First Team Captain Pete Halliday hit the last ball for six to win a fantastic game were something to behold. Joe Anderson`s century at Gosforth was equally memorable as the Second X1 continued to close in on the League Title.

Our Juniors have had a tremendous season with great progress made throughout the age groups. Please read the various reports that appear on the website – the effort involved from volunteers led by Barry Pearson is awesome and is the envy of most clubs in the area. All Stars has been a great success this year – introductory cricket for younger children - and Mark Wright deserves great credit for leading on this front.

Members will be delighted to learn that the Roof Project is nearing completion. Barry Evans has led on this project and I wish to thank once again all those who contributed financially to secure the future of our Club.

Of course there is never an opportunity to sit back – work will be starting soon to secure the netting on the West Road where the post brackets have corroded and the Car Park is clearly in need of pothole attention. There are sundry other tasks to tackle – we will get there in the end!! .....however, if you have any suggestions to make or can help in any way possible please do not hesitate to get in touch with me as below.

Best wishes to all Members and Friends of BHCC.
