Chairmans Update - May 2018

1 Jun 2018

Please accept my apologies for the recent radio silence – I could plead other commitments and pressure of work but I think we would all know that that is not true. I do intend to produce a newsletter once per month especially now that the new website is about to come on line.

Cricket has broken out after the most miserable pre-season in my memory – Geoff has worked wonders on the ground and it is already looking a picture. Our first Junior Evening took place on Mayday with a fantastic turn out of children and coaches. This despite the Arctic conditions that rendered our new South African professional Jacques Snyman completely speechless….a condition we had also witnessed on Saturday following an unfortunate run out which will never be mentioned ever again….

Jacques is staying with 2nd Team Captain Andrew Dawson who is in charge of language and cultural education. John Chambers has been assisting in the assimilation process so  watch this space.

I wish all our teams every success in 2018 – the time for talking has passed and now it is about effort, application and hopefully a little bit of luck. Please get behind Kyle Coetzer, Andy Dawson, Ross Marley, Mark Wright and all the teams – your support really helps and we can already record a record attendance at Riding Mill last Saturday!

Some exciting news is that Committee have agreed to fund a new Squash Court Floor which should be in situ by the end of the Month. The highly persuasive Martin Avery made an excellent case for this investment which is being backed up by some `self help` in terms of improving the changing facilities and shower areas.

In terms of the Cricket facilities we will be acquiring a new electronic scoreboard this season following a successful grant application to the ECB. The old one was showing its age and the new high falutin` one will facilitate computerised scoring which is required these days.

The Club feels vibrant at the moment largely due to the efforts of too many people to mention. Long may this continue!

Until June is bustin` out all over……
