In beginning my latest message to BHCC members I want to record my grateful thanks together with those of my colleagues on the Board and General Committee for the loyalty and support you have shown in the recent past. Following the guidelines strictly has enabled us to remain both safe and open and the ready acceptance of the table booking system and seating arrangements has been extremely encouraging.
There was a discussion about closing the bar on some other nights during the week but we are reluctant to do that as we appreciate the role the Club has in serving its members and supporting the local community. We are optimistic that we will be able to navigate our way through this winter but we are ever mindful of depleting our limited reserves in the bank.
On this note we have just received some wonderful news that DACON Fabrications the main Club Sponsors have agreed to send us their financial contribution for both 2020 and 2021. We are extremely grateful for the tremendous support of the Beynon family and of DACON – their gesture could not be timelier as the bills continue to roll in and some of our income streams take an inevitable hit.
I also heard from Colin Green (son of Norman) this week – the Green family have sent us a generous financial contribution just as our late lamented President did each year. Colin has sent me a copy of his latest Detective story – it is called Proof and is an excellent read. It is on sale for £8.99 and for every copy a BHCC reader buys Colin will make a £1 donation to Club funds. If you are interested please contact Colin on greencolin999@gmail.com
On the Cricket front we have sent some feedback to the NEPL on the arrangements made for the 2020 season – we are hoping that simplicity will be the key moving forward in terms of things like formats, bonus points, catering etc and the Hon Sec will be fighting our corner in his inimitable style.
We are making preliminary arrangements for pre-season practice for Juniors and Seniors but obviously special occasions like the Annual Dinner and Presentation Evenings will have to wait for happier times. With a bit of luck Boris may allow Christmas.
Martin Avery has reported that the Squash section is going great guns with excellent court take up and record takings in August and September. They even have showers that work now thanks to the efforts of Official Club Plumber Barry Evans.
As ever please keep in touch with me if you have anything to say or offers to make – my contact details are simon.lunn@live.co.uk mobile 07791 683827
