A short epistle to update Members on pressing matters re Benwell Hill CC.
1. The Governments latest guidelines have sadly meant the Club is no longer permitted to host Wakes on the premises. Whilst some of the inconsistencies implicit in these rules are indeed baffling the Club was left with absolutely no choice in this matter. It can only be hoped that normal service will be resumed before too long.
2. Cricket draws to a close on the ground this weekend. Good luck to Andy Dawson and the boys in their 2ndX1 Banks Final at South Northumberland on Saturday (12 noon start) – Sunday sees Presidents Day with two games – the Juniors play the Ladies at 10.00am and a past Hill team plays the present at 100noon in a 20:20. Please come along to mark a unique season in our long history.
3. The Club lost one of its distinguished former players last Saturday when Ray Layton passed away. A wicketkeeper batsman who enjoyed a long playing career and a man who never forgave me for running him out in 198 A stalwart of the card table and a lifelong NUFC supporter Ray will be much missed.
4. Finally Members will note that the seating has been reconfigured in the Club to take into the account the new `rule of 6`. Please observe the notices at all times – our fantastic bar staff will be on hand to make sure that all runs smoothly. Your ongoing cooperation with them and in this is much appreciated.
