Chairman's Christmas & New Year Newsletter

Chairman's Christmas & New Year Newsletter

22 Dec 2020

As we reach the end of this traumatic year a short message to wish all the Members of Benwell Hill Cricket Club a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

It came as no surprise last week that the Club remained in tier 3 and it is difficult to envisage a time when the Bar can reopen before the mass vaccination efforts start to take effect towards Easter. I hope that is unduly pessimistic and you can rest assured that we will be geared up to get underway as soon as we are allowed.

The Board have been meeting on more or less a weekly basis since the Pandemic took hold and I am grateful for their expertise and commitment in steering the ship through uncharted waters. We have obtained various tranches of Government support and remain in a reasonable financial position all things considered. A major factor in that has been the support of all our Sponsors who have stood firmly behind the Club and helped to weather the storm. At some point in 2021 we will get the chance to offer our gratitude in person.

I am writing this on December 21st – the Longest Day – in what has seemed like the Longest Year. However, from now on the nights get lighter and it will not be too long before our ground starts to buzz with activity and becomes that beautiful oasis in the West End of Newcastle.

I hope you all stay fit and strong and look forward to our paths crossing again as soon as possible in 2021.

As ever please contact me on my mobile 07791 683827 or email me on simon.lunn@live.co.uk if you have anything you wish to ask or to offer.
