Last weekend's Covid Cup virtual game between Benwell Hill 3rd's and Matfen, saw our first winner, with Phil Nicholson collecting £120 (a double rollover) for succesfully guessing the total runs scored in the game would be 183. Nico later advised he intends to put the money towards extending his Wisden collection bookcase, seen in picture. Coolio is waiting to pop round with a quote from D Tait builders for the work, not sure £120 will cover it though Nico.
For those who are interested, in the game itself the Hill batted first in a tightly fought affair (fortunately the fighting in the virtual game is not the same as what invariably happens in a Hill West Tyne game), we posted 93 for 4 from our 10 overs, with Rash Shad and Harry Reeves top scoring with 38no and 22 respectively, Matfen finishing only 3 runs short on 90 for 5, with Jeff Mason taking 2 for 9.
That makes it 2 wins and 1 lost from the first 3 Covid Cup games, next up on Saturday 9th May is the ladies v Tynedale.
