Double delight as 1s and 2s win despite the Saturday showers

6 Jul 2021

For once the Hill were on the right side of the weather gods, as both the 1st's and 2nd's recorded excellent victories, whilst many of their nearest rvials succumbed to the frequent downpours that persisted throughout Saturday.

At the Hill, Luke Doneathy scored a breathtaking 117 not out in only 79 balls, incluiding 11 fours and 7 sixes, as the Hill succesfully chased down Eppleton's 182 in the 32nd over for the loss of only 1 wicket. James Schofield, in what is his likely to be his last game for the Hill (he is moving to that London) contributed 40 not out. A special word for Schoey, who has had a great season so far, scoring over 400 league runs, at an average of 57.86. Earlier in the day we dismissed Eppleton for 182, with Mohsin Mukhtar taking an excellent 5 for 41, despite the wet ball, there was also 2 wickets each for Luke Doneathy and Anthony Hunter, FInn McGreath the other wicket taker.

The 2nd XI had a successful away trip to Boldon winning by 109 runs, thanks largely to an excellent all round display from William Archbold. The Hill were put into bat by the hosts we posted 209 for 6 declared in 37 overs, Will Archbold top scoring with 77 of only 50 balls (11 x 4s and 2 x 6s), there was also useful contriubutions from Joe Fletcher (31 not out), Matty Hynd (30), Joe Moore (25) and Haydon Mustard (24). Boldon were then dismissed for only 100, with spin twins Will Archbold taking 5 for 23 and Pete Jones taking 4 for 26, Haroon Malik the other wicket taker.

The West Tyne 3rd XI game versus Matfen was moved to the Sunday, and unfortunately had to be cancelled due to a Covid outbreak in the Matfen team.
