Narrow league loss for 1st's but 2nd's and 3rd's go marching on

The first's suffered another league defeat this weekend at the hands of Chester-le-Street, however there was plenty of flight and resolve shown in what turned out to be a very close finish. Batting first we scored 219 for 7 off 58 overs, with solid contributions from James Schofield 44, Kyle Coetzer 40, Luke Doneathy 39, Will Smith 34, Phil Nicholson 29 and Pete Halliday 20*. In reply Chester reached their target 7 down, with 2 balls to spare off a reduced 45 overs, Kyle Coetzer with 3 and Luke Doneathy 2 the main wicket takers.

1st XI scorecard v Chester le Street

The seconds secured an excellent 65 run victory in the reverse fixture at Ropery Lane. Bowling out Chester for 139 in the penultimate over thanks to wickets from Joe Anderson (3 for 22), Peter Jones (2 for 17), Anthony Hunter (2 for 35) and Joe Kilpatrick (2 for 30).  The victory was setup by some excellent batting from old timers Dave Haxon (83) and Adam Heather (36). The victory means the team is joint top of the league with South North,

2nd XI scorecard v Chester le Street 

Performance of the day however was in the thirds win at Wylam, with Darshana Thiranga scoring 120* in a total of 259 for 7 in 40 overs. Darsh was abley assisted by skipper Ross Marley who scored a (West Tyne) Career Best 42*. In reply Wylam, finished 109 short, with the same two players doing the damage, this time it was skipper Ross who was the star turn, getting a superb 5 for 16, Darsh also chipped in with 2 wickets. The win places the 3rd's second in the league to Hexham Leazes.
