Remember the date, Sunday 19th July, the day the 2020 cricket season eventually started. However it appears the long delay has done the 3rd XI no harm at all, as they scored a superb 223 for 4 in an excellent 55 run victory over Mitford.
Whilst I suspect the quality of the Hill wicket helped our batters compared to usual West Tyne fare, it was an excellent start for Jeff Mason in his first game as captain. Evergreen Davey Ladd was top scorer with 78, exciting young batsman/wicket keeper Rohan Aatif scored a half century and Rashid Shad 40, in an imposing first innings score.
Mitford also enjoyed the favourable conditions scoring a respectable 168 for 6 in reply, wickets were shared between Darshana Thiranga (2), Zain Ullah, William Archbold and John Chambers, new vice captain Chris Pounder claiming 2 catches.
