Virtual season starts with loss against Feling

20 Apr 2020

This weekend was meant to be the start of the 2020 season, however with the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown, we instead had to settle for a fund raising virtual game in the form of the Covid Cup challenge against Felling.

The software to the run the computer generated cricket game was developed by the Hill's very own Peter Jones, simulated a 10 over game between the Hill first team and Felling, based on the expected line ups, for what would of been the first game of the new NEPL season

The aim for those taking part is to guess the cumulative score of both sides for a £1 stake, with the person making the successful guess winning a third of the overall fund collected, with the other two thirds going towards Hill funds in this difficult period.

The virtual game played out with a 'suspect' Hill batting order (for a 10 over slog) score only 62 for 6, James Schofield top scoring with 16. In reply Felling won with 1 over to spare, despite 3 for 7 from Rory Hanley.

More importantly the cumulative run total of 125 was not guessed correctly, so there will be a roll over to next week, which will be a simulation of the 2nd XI game that should be taking place against Whitburn.
