It was another mixed weekend of results, with wins for the West Tyne 3rd XI against Belsay and the NEPL Sunday 3rd XI against Hetton Lyons, offsetting the narrow defeat for the 1st XI against Tynedale and the surprising hammering the 2nd XI suffered at home to Whitburn. NEPL Premier League - 1st v Tynedale (a) - lost by 2 wickets - Match Report from Phil Haves.
A bright Saturday lunchtime saw us visit Hexham in what turned out to be a feisty niggly encounter with Tynedale.
Tynedale won the toss & asked us to bat & less than 3 overs in it looked being an excellent decision as we slumped to 3-4 losing Rory, Belly, Haydon & Pete none of whom troubled the scorers. Yash, at the non strikers end, must have been wondering what on earth was going on. Will was next in & managed to support Yash however with the score on 26 was bowled for 14. Janders (2) came & went quickly having spent longer at Tesco than at the crease!. At 51/6 Dan joined Yash & the 2 played sensibly with Yash reaching his 50 & adding 40 before the former was disappointed to be bowled for 14 having looked comfortable. Max was next in & not for the first time this season supported Yash in adding 39 until he fell to a tumbling catch at mid on for 19. Yash then stepped up the pace & after Luke was caught behind for 2 he mistimed a short ball & was caught on the line having made a chanceless 89. To reach 158 was a great effort after the disastrous start to the innings.
Callum & Luke opened up in what was to be an impressive opening spell with Callum cleaning up home professional Mpofu for 5 & Luke picking up 2 wickets as the home side were reduced to 30/3. Barber made a brisk 22 before falling to Dan & when he also removed opener Foreman for a dogged 18 it was game on at 51/5. Callum got back in on the act dismissing Stephenson & when Yash trapped Crichton LBW we were in the driving seat at 81/7. Unfortunately the tea break came just when we didn’t want it to as it gave the home side chance to reset. On the resumption home batters Rourke & Scott played sensibly chipping away at the target & interspersed with the odd big shot. Unfortunately Pete couldn’t hold onto a chance at slip off Callum & the score moved on to 145 before we managed to break the partnership Luke removing Rourke for an excellent 33. The home side reached the target without any further loss as victory slipped from our grasp losing by 2 wickets.
Sunderland are our next opponents as they visit NBMS Denton Bank on Saturday & then we look to progress in the National KO Cup on Sunday when we travel to Wakefield Thornes C.C.

A mixture of youth and experience saw the West Tyne 3’s win for the second time in a row at the expense of Belsay.

In reply Belsay were looking in control before Rashan got to work with the ball reducing Belsay to 43/3 removing the openers Johnson, Jackson and the dangerous Jansz before a partnership of 27 between Sheriff and Liyanage would take Belsay to 70/4 in the 18th. Sheriff and Fenwick would add 21 before Darsh removed Sheriff for 33. From there Sherry Khan removed Fenwick (12) Hewitt (4) Mills (0) and Turner (4) before Darsh wrapped up the win by 39 runs.
